Thanksgiving Beer Pairings
Not sure what beer to put on the table this Thanksgiving?
Let us take the guesswork out of it! Here are some suggestions for some Thanksgiving classics curated by our Charlottesville + Crozet Taproom General Manager, Jace Gonnerman.
Turkey
Thanksgiving's primary protein is a perfect match for an amber lager. A bigger beer can quickly overpower the turkey, especially the white meat. We recommend Jomo Vienna Lager because it won't overshadow the turkey, but still has enough malt backbone to stand up to any rich gravy. Festie, our Oktoberfest Lager pairs in a similar way, with a bit more malt richness.
Stuffing
Stuffing takes on many forms. A rich stuffing loaded with pork sausage is going to pair well with a porter or milk stout such as Little Red Roostarr Coffee Cream Stout. A lighter, vegetable laden stuffing calls for the crisp fruitiness of The Love Wheat Beer.
Roasted Vegetables
The Love Wheat Beer is an outstanding pairing with any roasted veggie. Front Row Golden Ale, a light and refreshing ale with a citrusy kiss of Cascade hops is also a winning option.
MAshed Potatoes
It's no secret that the best mashed potatoes are decadent and loaded with butter, cream, and more. This calls for a more robust beer with some malt backbone to match the big flavors and a bit of bitterness to cut the richness. Snow Blind Doppelbock, a nearly 8% take on the strong German Lager fits the bill. For the IPA lover in the family, Northern Lights IPA with its rich malt and citrusy hop aromas will achieve a similar effect.
Pumpkin or Pecan Pie
This is where you get to go big. Break out your big, rich, roasty stouts and porters. Our Box of Chocolates Stout Pack is a perfect pairing and can serve as your after-dinner coffee as well. These decadent double chocolate imperial stouts feature mocha, toasted coconut, graham cracker, and toasted marshmallow variants. It's Thanksgiving… You've earned double dessert!
