Will Schmitt was born and raised in Madison County, Iowa. For ten years, he led the Midwestern rock band Funks G, performing hundreds of concerts around the country with his friends.
Since then, he has lived on and off the grid, first as a wilderness therapy counselor in Vermont and more recently as a long distance backpacker. Will hiked the entire Appalachian Trail in 2013 and about 2,000 miles of the Pacific Crest Trail in 2015, which he documented at YourHappyWanderer.com.
He kicked off 2016 with a 25 date residency in the Pacific Northwest and spent the summer touring his home state of Iowa as part of the inaugural “Spirit of Chautauqua” tour. The tour garnered a lot of media attention in his home state due to the uniqueness and quality of the endeavor. Will partnered with 48 County Conservation Departments to host free concerts in Iowa’s great outdoors and shared his songs and stories for sizable crowds beneath the beautiful blue sky.
Will is currently back in his adopted hometown of Asheville, North Carolina, where he is working on a new music album and performing throughout the Southeast.
