CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA – (September 6, 2016) Starr Hill Brewery is bringing back the Bavarian experience to Central Virginia with a unique Oktoberfest event on Saturday, October 1 at the Tap Room in Crozet, Virginia. The Brewery will transform into a German Brauhaus, complete with Beer Hall and an Oktoberfest tent. New and limited release German-style beers will be poured and paired with traditional food offerings, along with live music, games, and a great cause.
“This is a great annual event where we can honor Germany’s rich beer history with a true celebration of Oktoberfest,” says Starr Hill’s Brewmaster, Robbie O’Cain. “It’s from this deep tradition that we’re able to brew so many unique styles for the festival, including some first-time recipes for the brewery.”
Beer steins will be brimming with Starr Hill’s world class German-style brews, including a tart and refreshing Berliner Weisse, brewed just for the occasion, and the new Basketcase American Helles Lager. The event will also see the return of Starr Hill’s Oktoberfest favorites, Festie Oktoberfest Lager, Helles Bock, Warehouse Pils, The Love Hefeweizen and Jomo Vienna-Style Lager, alongside new fall seasonal release Last Leaf Maple Brown Ale. Brewers from the Starr Hill team will also hold an educational “Bier Session” covering the history of German brewing techniques and beer styles.
A “Bratwurst Battle” pitting local chefs using locally sourced pork products from The Rock Barn will be a competition for the top Oktoberfest dish amongst attendees. Chef Curtis Shaver of Hamiltons’ at First & Main / Sandwich Lab returns to defend his 2015 Oktoberfest title against Chef Tommy Lasley of Ivy Provisions / Fry’s Spring Station and Angelo Vangelopoulos of Ivy Inn Restaurant.
Starr Hill Oktoberfest will feature live and local music from Chamomile and Whiskey, plus games of corn hole (or “schwarze loch”), bier pong, and raffles for great prizes. As part of Starr Hill’s Cheers for Charity program, $1 for every beer sold at the event and throughout October will be donated to the Shenandoah Park Trust.
The Starr Hill Oktoberfest event will run from 12-7 PM on Saturday, October 1. Tickets for the event include three tokens, each redeemable for one beer or food serving, as well as a limited edition half-liter Oktoberfest mug for the first 400 sold. Additional tokens for beer and food will be available for purchase during the event. Advance tickets for $17 are now available for purchase in the Starr Hill Brewery & Tap Room and at StarrHill.com/Oktoberfest.
